Supervision Guidelines

The supervision guidelines creates clear, consistent, and supportive supervision practices that improve professional performance and development.

The supervision tools provided (please also see the Supervision Agreement, Template and Tip Sheet) help supervisors effectively guide, mentor and evaluate their team members and give supervisees a clear understanding of what support they can expect.

The guidelines outline best practices for communication, feedback, and performance management, ensuring that all people receive equitable and constructive support.

Information includes:

  • What supervision is
  • Types of supervision, including peer supervision, direct line supervision, external supervision and group supervision
  • Explanation of supervision domains
  • Additional supervision options
  • Role of the supervisor and supervisee
  • Goals and aims for supervision.

How this can be used:

The supervision resources provide a collective and complementary kit of resources that helps guide supervision options and support functions.

These resources are designed to guide and support supervision practices. They are for organisations that don’t have consistent resources or want to use some of their content to enhance their existing resources. Organisations can use, adapt, or integrate these resources into their own documents.

They are for individual supervision sessions for both supervisors and supervisees.
